Submissions Being Accepted for the 2015 MusiCounts TD Community Music Program

Tuesday, February 17th, 2015

Submissions are now being accepted for the 2015 MusiCounts TD Community Music Program. Launched three years ago as a partnership between MusiCounts and TD Bank Group, the initiative has provided funding to 31 organizations across Canada since inception, allowing access to musical instruments and equipment to thousands of children in under-served communities.

“In the first two years of this program, we saw a substantial amount of applications,” says Allan Reid, President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards and MusiCounts. “That response serves to underline the substantial need that exists for these programs. We’re thrilled to continue this partnership with TD that provides opportunities for youth to discover a talent or passion that they might not have known they had if it wasn’t for the local programs that expose them to music.”

Sabian Launches Cymbal Vote 2014

Sunday, September 1st, 2013

Sabian AA Sick Hats. One of the 12 new models in the Cymbal Vote 2014 contest.

For the third consecutive year, Sabian is asking drummers around the world to help decide which new models the cymbal-maker will release in 2014 – and once again, drummers around the world get a chance to play them before voting.

Multiple sets of 12 new cymbal models developed by the creative SABIAN Vault team have been shipped to drum shops around the world, allowing drummers to play before they vote. At many events, Sabian artists will be on location to perform with the latest dozen models.

For those who can’t get out to play the cymbals, the Cymbal Vote website features video of SABIAN artists playing and discussing the 12 cymbals. Top players like Mike Portnoy, Chad Smith, and Todd Sucherman will take the cymbals for a test-drive, and will make their opinions heard.

The Cymbal Vote concept is simple: a dozen new cymbal models are developed by the SABIAN Vault team so that drummers around the world can vote daily for their favourites − until a final four are left standing. Those four are officially announced as SABIAN’s 2014 product offering at the Winter NAMM show in Anaheim, CA in January.

Canadian Bridges To Be Turned Into Martin Guitars

Monday, December 19th, 2011

C.F. Martin & Co. has begun utilizing Forest Stewardship Council (FSCR)-certified recycled sitka spruce in an instrument it will unveil at the 2012 NAMM Show in Anaheim, CA.

“Martin Guitar has long been committed to research and innovation to find alternatives to rare woods,” says Chris Martin, Chairman of the Board and CEO.

The wood, which is reclaimed from dismantled Canadian bridges where it had been used in construction, will be used on the tops of the new GPCPA4 Sapele, one of the cutaway guitars in the company’s Performing Artist series.
