Friday, October 10th, 2014

CFMECoalition for Music Education is hosting its first gala fundraising event, “Casa Musica – an evening of music and meaning,” on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014 starting at 7 p.m. at Toronto’s famed Casa Loma. Coalition for Music Education is best known for its annual Music Monday, the nation-wide sing-a-long that brings together hundreds of thousands of students, educators, and music aficionados from coast to coast and which celebrated a milestone 10th anniversary earlier this year. Casa Musica the organization’s inaugural fundraising gala will be hosted by the charismatic Juno-winning jazz vocalist Kellylee Evans, with special guest speaker and musician Colonel Chris Hadfield. Funds raised from the evening will support Youth for Music, a new program of the Coalition for Music Education.

“As a musician, music is so very important to my life,” explains Host Kellylee Evans. “As a mother, I can truly understand the value of programs that aid families and make music education a possibility. I’m so happy to be a part of this initiative”.

“This event not only celebrates the valuable meaning that music brings to our lives, but also supports Youth For Music, our new national program to provide leadership opportunities for young people so they can make a difference for music in their schools and communities,” says Holly Nimmons, Executive Director, Coalition for Music Education.

A pre-event VIP reception featuring an ensemble of talented young musicians from The National Youth Orchestra of Canada will set the tone for the stellar evening of music. Guests will then be greeted by a special performance by Ray Carnovale on the historic Wurlitzer organ followed by a spectacular video performance by Shallaway Newfoundland and Labrador Youth in Chorus. The evening of music and entertainment includes showcase performances from
