Counterpoint Musical Celebrates 30 Years

Counterpoint Musical Celebrates 30 Years

This year, Counterpoint Musical is celebrating three decades of incredible memories, milestones, and music. As they reflect on the past and look forward to the future, they can’t help but feel immense appreciation for their customers.

Counterpoint started in 1994. Fueled by a passion for music and a vision to make quality orchestral and band instruments and accessories accessible to Canadians, George Ulmann founded Counterpoint Musical Services, a Canadian musical wholesale distribution company focusing on personal, friendly service.

The company was started by George Ullmann and Jean-Marie Barker, former colleagues at Boosey and Hawkes Canada. In the beginning, Counterpoint encompassed both a wholesale distribution and a rental musical library and publishing division.  In 2008, Jean-Marie bought the publishing division from George and it continues to operate today as Counterpoint Music Library Services.  At that time, Counterpoint represented such brands as Thomastik-Infeld, Wittner, Superslick, Blessing and Bohemia violins. Over the years, it has expanded to represent more than 80 brands, including some of the industry’s most respected and in-demand products including Thomastik-Infeld, Pirastro, Stentor, Légère reeds, Wittner, Bam cases, BG France, Rovner, Kun, Harpsicle Harps and Seydel Harmonicas.

In 2012, Adam Berlin purchased the company from George Ulmann and has continued the mission to offer top-quality products and friendly customer service.
