Plenty Of Exciting Pre-NAMM HappeningsThursday, January 23rd, 2014
There’s a buzz in the air in Anaheim leading into the 2014 NAMM Show, and come Thursday morning, that there will be plenty of fast guitar leads, trumpet blowing, and bass drum thuds added to that buzz as the convention centre opens its doors to swallow up members of the international music products industry.
CMT is down at the show and will be bringing you regular updates on what’s happening and what people are talking about. If you’ve got any new products you’ve heard about on the show floor and would like some inside info, definitely be in touch!
Leading in to Thursdays grand opening, Wednesday hosted its share of great events and exciting announcements. Fresh off the plane, I headed to the third floor of the convention centre for Roland’s press conference, where the company premiered a slew of innovations that are sure to have people talking.
Highlights from the rollout included the FA-06 and FA-08 music workstations, the RD-800 stage piano, ME-80 multi-effects unit for guitarists, and some great percussion toys like the TM-2 trigger module for acoustic/digital hybrids and (my personal favourite, being their predecessors were the first two effects pedals I ever owned), the “reborn” OD-1X overdrive and DS-1X distortion pedals from Boss.
The presentation was spearheaded by an address from Roland Corporation CEO, Jun-ichi Miki, who spoke about the company’s new focus on R&D, uniting members of the development team with their peers from marketing to enhance workflow and communication and better inform the developers with what their customers and retailers want to see.
As usual, Roland had an army of international performers to demo the gear with some very impressive licks, tricks, and solos.
After heading out to grab a bite, the night ended with the usual stop at Yorkville Sound’s annual party at the ESPN Zone in Downtown Disney. The atmosphere was great, as always, with Canadian and American dealers having the chance to mingle with Yorkville’s staff and get fed and watered (those Buffalo wings are hard to beat) before hitting the hay in anticipation of Day 1.
More coming soon!
