CMT at NAMM Show 2013 – Day 1Thursday, January 24th, 2013
Canadian Music Trade is down in Anaheim, CA for The NAMM Show 2013. Here’s a brief look at what’s been going on, both pre-NAMM and after half of Day 1.
Rode Microphones kicked off the pre-NAMM festivities with a no-expenses-spared event at the Montage Resort in Laguna Beach, CA. Rode unveiled three new products, the highlight of which is the IXY stereo recording microphone.
“We cover all the different categories. We do studio, we do high performance, we do broadcast, and video, we do everything. This is a new category but it extends into all of them. So say you want to go to YouTube with something, you can have – and we do have some stuff that I can’t share with you at the moment – but you’re going to do a video of yourself, use the IXY, sing into the device and you’ve got mindblowing recording technology; a digital audio workstation sound straight in,” Rode President Peter Freedman told CMT.
The event also included an emotional appearance from Rode’s Export Sales Director, Colin Hill, who has been battling lung cancer for the past couple of years. It was a touching moment for many people in attendance who have known Hill for years and you could hear it in the resounding applause.
On Wednesday evening, Pickering, ON’s Yorkville Sound, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, threw its annual NAMM party at the Anaheim ESPN Zone.
On Thursday morning, the Anaheim Convention Center was, as you’d expect, a zoo as thousands of people streamed in to get the event started.
Loud Technologies’ John Boudreau showed off a number of Mackie and Ampeg’s latest releases at a Thursday morning press conference. New products included the Ampeg Heritage Series B-15 bass amp and the Mackie DL806 eight-channel mixer with iPad integration.
Yamaha President Tak Nakata and Senior VP Rick Young were the featured speakers at the company’s 125th anniversary press conference. The company unveiled a number of products, including its CX Series of pianos.
Of course, you can expect to see many, many products being unveiled at NAMM days in the pages of CMT over the coming months.
